Terra Cotta

Terra Cotta
My terracotta pots begin to disintegrate in climate and watering. What are the advantages / disadvantages of closing them?

If I seal them, then they must act exactly like plastic pots I suppose, but they retain the appearance of clay. I heard that the clay needs to breathe, but these pots, unlike some clay, begin to corrode.

Seal the outside of the pan and not inside. This will give them the capacity to breathe, and keeping outside, protected from the elements.
