New England is famous for its historic inns, luxurious resorts, intimate bed and breakfasts. But now add in the varied scenery and striking sandy beaches, rocky shores and lakes and mountains, and you have the ultimate in choice for a romantic getaway.
But where I might choose to visit and stay? Here are four destinations for a romantic getaway in New England who would always make my list.
ACADIA REGION IN MAINE:
Travel north beyond the outlet shops and the Boothbay Harbor area and you enter another Maine dramatic coastline, beautiful villages and islands, and Acadia National Park. Here you can cycle on the haul roads with views of breathtaking walk through the silent forests or hiking to the mountain peaks or drive on scenic roads.
Visit the park, but then spinning in Deer Isle on Penobscot Bay and take in the historic villages of Castine and Stonington, or travel north to the Schoodic Peninsula and visit along the coast of Route 1, where fishing villages dot creeks and isolated ports all the way to the Canadian border. Resorts that specialize in romantic getaways can be found at Bar Harbor and Ellsworth both just outside of Acadia National Park boundaries.
Berkshire Hills in Massachusetts:
The rolling Berkshire Hills in western Massachusetts has long been popular with the rich and famous, but more recently discovered by those seeking an alternative to crowded beaches and hiking trails of the most popular destinations in New England. Nestled in the valleys between the mountains and along rivers and streams are villages, where during the day, you can explore the outdoors, and experience night Shakespeare or a musical in which all cities dot the region. It also recommended a place for fall foliage getaways romantic.
The Berkshires is also home to many Resorts most exclusive New England Historic Inns and centered in the towns of Lenox.
Cape Cod in Massachusetts:
