Why Queen Victoria was so important to Britain – which has its monarch so great? (Please help – I really need to know for my project in history!) Thankyou!
During his reign, the English monarchy took his ceremonial character modern. She and her husband, Prince Consort Albert had nine children, whose marriage through many were the descendants of the royal families of Europe. The Queen curiously rejected large Victorian values and its evolution. Although she hated pregnancy and childbirth, babies hated and was uncomfortable in the presence of children, Victoria reigned in a society that both idealized motherhood and family. She had no interest in social issues, but the 19th century in Britain was an era of reform. She resisted technological change even when the mechanical and technological innovations are reshaping the face of European civilization. Queen Victoria was a determined to retain political power, yet the will and unwittingly she oversaw the transformation of the political role of the monarch in a ceremonial and thus preserving the English monarchy. When Victoria became queen, the political role of the Crown was not at all clear, nor the permanence of the throne itself. When she died and her son Edward VII moved from Marlborough House to Buckingham Palace, the change has been a social rather than political focus, there was no doubt about the continuation of the monarchy.
