Native American Pottery may come from the pueblos of the Southwest or near Casa Grande. Mata Ortiz, Hopi, Navajo, Acoma, Zia, just to name a few, that make wonderful hand rolled Pueblo Native American Pottery. Aboriginal include American Indians south of the border of the United States. (Remember there are no lines on the land that separates North and South America) Some of the best pottery I've seen is the area of Casa Grande they create Mata Ortiz pottery. All native pottery is hand rolled and made with local clay, cow dung cooked and hand painted. Each pueblo there own style of pottery. The images painted on pots usually symbolize different beliefs pueblos and Mythos.
Hopi pottery is generally decorated style of the pen, but also has many finely painted geometric forms on the surface. Acoma style is generally light weight white clay with geometric lines very finely detailed and points. I have a fairly large number of geckos and various types of insects. Zia pots usually have birds and flowers and a wavy line or two. Maricopa tends to be more utilitarian. The red clay pots are my favorites. The Santa Clara and San Ildefonso pueblos make some of the most beautiful pots blackened around. Many are cut into designs Avanue or water snake.
My newest discovery has been Mata Ortiz pots. Most are made in the board of Casa Grande a few very talented artists. The blackened pots rival Santa Clara and San Ildefonso pueblos north. Complex tables are so precise and meticulous she will cross his eyes just looking at them.
All these artists are talented Indians although people sometimes forget that Mexico is part of that group.
