If you are planning a trip to Poland this summer, it is likely that you'll spend some time in the capital city of Warsaw – and for good reason. Warsaw is one Eastern Europe's most beautiful cities, boasting a World Heritage by UNESCO in the old town along the sumptuous palace Culture and Science, and a variety of monuments to its turbulent past of Poland. However, an attraction stands out most in Warsaw – The Grand Chateau Royal.
Dating from the thirteenth century, the Royal Castle in Warsaw was once the official residence of the king of Poland. It housed the king's personal offices, and the Royal Court of Poland until the partition of Poland, which ended the sovereign Polish-Lithuanian Commonwealth in the eighteenth century. During the Second World War, the royal palace was partially destroyed by German bombers in the invasion of Poland, and subsequently suffered additional damage after a German bombing and heavy artillery fire during the Warsaw Uprising in 1944. Reconstructions, however, began to take place in the early 1970s, and in July 1974, the clock tower of the royal castle began to work again – the same exact time he was arrested during the Luftwaffe bombing.
