Can anyone tell me why cats have a house-shaped diamond iris?
I asked this before, but my subconscious does not have the answers I received. I was told that cats are iris shaped like this because they hunt at night. However, the big cats do not show this. They have a round shape iris–lion/tiger/leopard / etc. .. I also noticed a lot of other nocturnal creatures that not share this physical trait. The next creatures, I thought the lizard family is because they have this diamond shape of an iris. But the lizards are creatures of day because they are cold-blooded and need sunlight to help their metabolism. So where does this biological difference originate. If domestic cats and lions are connected where on the tree of life has come to this difference.
Cats home have the iris width, shrinking, becoming oval. It's a way to emphasize that found in other Wildcats (small cats, not as big as lions and tigers), except for the cat Manul. Cats are nocturnal hunters especially, a narrowing of their iris to a slot is a better way to protect their sensitive eyes light. Goats horizontal rectangular iris all the time. Humans have become round just balls.
