How can I get rust barrel of my gun BB's?

Hey, anyone know how to get rust barrel of my gun BB's? This is an original 1970's Daisy Red Ryder BB Gun Rifle. So do not say Coke and a toothbrush!

Steel Wool …. then use gun oil on it later ….. If the rust is real bad try 1000 grit sandpaper …..
