I am thinking to buy a large bowl for a betta fish, but I know that the betta fish may jump. Is it possible that I could make a top of the screen for a fishbowl? Thank you! In fact, what is the minimum size of a bowl for a betta? I do not want something that betta feel too cramped! :)

Its great to see that you're researching how to properly care for a betta before buying a! Here are some of my thoughts and some additional information to help you make an informed decision and conciencios. The myth that Bettas prefer small bowls is just not true! Think of it this way. You are able to sleeping upright in a closet, but I bet you would not do that. Now imagine that your betta feels as if it were kept in an aquarium that was too small. Unfortunatley Bettas have no choice in what we choose to house them. The good news is that we control all aspects of the lives of our fish. What they eat, how clean their water is the amount of light, how much noise, what kind of decorations they have to live with and what size home they live in. Try five gallons aquarium filled about 3 / 4 of the way to the top with a screen cover like you could use for reptiles. Do not just take my word for that yet. Here is some information our friends http://www.HealthyBetta.com … Basic Betta Care Composed by: Rachel, Healthy Betta; Published by: ABM Accommodation: It is recommended that you have at least one gallon of water per Betta. This means that your betta should be kept in a fish bowl or tank is one gallon or more for a betta happy and health. Bettas can be very active and entertaining fish, if you give them plenty of room to live. Many stores sell BettaHex houses or other small bowls for bettas, but this is not the best way for bettas to live. The Deadly levels of ammonia can build very quickly in such a tiny tank and would require changes of water every day to keep your betta healthy, even if you were prepared to make that commitment, the water changes can significantly stress fish and should be done regularly but not excessively. While some more experienced keepers do betta to use smaller containers, it requires much more work on your part and is not advised unless you're willing to do water changes quite frequent and extensive maintenance procedures. Bettas can and must jump! A Betta tank should always have a cover with air holes. Betta is a labyrinth fish so few other common aquarium fish, they breathe oxygen from the water surface and it is very important that fresh air is available to them outside of the tank. If your tank or bowl does not come with a cover, there are several ways to make your own! An old CD can cover over a round fish bowl, hair nets or mesh material with a bow tied around the neck of a reservoir can also work effectively. Be aware that the lids that come with most small (1-2 gallon) tanks commonly sold block too much oxygen and should not be used, while the label may read that the tank is "Perfect for Bettas, the lid is not. Your betta will be healthier and happier with a constant supply of fresh air. Be creative and have fun with it, just make sure that air can pass through any this cover that you create. If you choose to cycle your tank (installation of a filtration system work), it is usually advisable to attempt this in a tank that is at least 5 gallons. Otherwise it may be difficult to achieve stable reservoir conditions. There are two ways to scroll an aquarium: fish in the tank or a cycle without fish. Here are some useful links to learn more about cycling a fish tank: fishless cycle – BettaMVP: http://webpages.charter.net/bettamvp/fishlesscycle.html or TheKrib: http://faq.thekrib.com/begin-cycling.html. There are many other sites easily found through a search engine as well. As mentioned above (under General Information Betta) if you choose to use a tank with a filtration system, make sure that is at the lowest possible setting to avoid being in the tank. Also, your tank should be implemented in a manner in which Your betta's fins or can not remain stuck at the entrance of air into the tank. Watch your betta carefully when you start to exploit a filtration system if you notice that your betta is not happy, it is best to remove and place in a tank cycles, or a bowl.
