Bean Pot

We Americans are facing financial difficulties and I understand many others are too. One of the ways we is to reduce the food budget. Suddenly, we eat more casseroles, ground beef instead of steak, etc. Calico These beans are perfect for such moments. You ground beef, bacon, and three types of beans in one dish. (Feel free to substitute other beans for longer listed.) For dessert, make cook this simple white cake and frost with Never, Never Fail frosting.

CALICO BEANS

1 / 2 lb. bacon

1 cup onion, diced

1 can red beans

1 can butter beans

1 can of baked beans

1 / 2 cup brown sugar

1 / 2 cup white sugar

1 tsp vinegar

1 tsp tea dry mustard

1 / 2 cup ketchup

1 / 4 cup molasses

salt and pepper to taste

Preheat oven to 350 degrees.

Brown beef, bacon and onion, drain fat. Add beans, brown sugar, white sugar, vinegar, mustard, ketchup, molasses, salt and pepper. 2 held in 1/2-quart bean pot or baking dish. Bake at 350 degrees for 40 minutes.

Makes 8 to 10.

Simple White Cake

This recipe is an old Church of Christ Cookbook dated 1976. I have no idea of the city or state.

1 / 2 cup Crisco or Spry

1 1 / 2 cups sugar

4 egg whites

1 1 / 4 cup cold water

3 cups cake flour

3 c. tea baking powder

1 tsp Tea Vanilla

Preheat oven to 350 degrees.

Cream shortening, add sugar and vanilla and mix well. Add flour and baking powder alternately with water. Beat well after each addition. Add vanilla. Mix well. Bake at 350 degrees for 40 to 45 minutes in a 9×13 greased and floured baking inches.

NEVER, NEVER FAIL GLAZE

This recipe, to the best of my knowledge comes from an old church in the Midwest.

2 cups sugar

1 / 4 cup light corn syrup

1 / 8 c. Tea Salt

1 / 2 cup milk

1 / 2 cup butter

2 chocolate squares

Combine in a saucepan and stir over low heat until butter and chocolate. Boil one minute to a candy thermometer reads 220 degrees. Remove from heat, add vanilla and beat until thick.

Note: For a delicious white glaze, omit the chocolate and do exactly as above, adding 1 teaspoon vanilla.

Enjoy!
