My stay in London was set right in the middle of my stay long adventure abroad. Christchurch, New Zealand had traveled through Bangkok and the beautiful city of London. Flying just above the area was exciting, looking down on the river Thames was great and for some reason reminded me of the Eastenders TV program.
After settling in at my sister's apartment I had some valuable sleep, traveling can be great fun, but jet lag can quickly make you back down to earth. The next day I headed to St Paul's Cathedral, a monument is amazing and well worth the visit. After the usual tourist photos in front of St Paul, I went to the Art Gallery Tate Modern. They had some really fascinating exhibits at the time with some great sculptures and works of art.
Heading Out to lunch reminded me how much everything is expensive in London after you've exchanged New Zealand dollars to British pounds, after from Bangkok very cheap, I realized that this part of my vacation would be expensive. The holidays are all about spending money but so it was time to move on and spend a little more.
Being a big sports fan I was very keen to get Wimbledon to discover some tennis. After the first day was rained off I decided to make the trip to the park and see what my chances of entering were. Turned out that I just had to wait in line, one line particularly massive! Fortunately, the wait in line was proved to be a part of the pleasure I received my queue card, my official guide book and many queues other goodies that were filed to those who waited patiently. We waited in line for an hour and a half from the end which was not too bad, especially when compared to the other line of people queuing for tickets to play the good days!
As I entered the complex mythological Wimbledon I realized it was much more than a little tennis, it was like a small town it was so great. I watched some matches on outside courts first had to pinch myself that I actually watch tennis at Wimbledon, where were my strawberries and cream? After some good control on the speed of my game I dare own up to the main courts, I managed to buy some resale tickets to the main courts and ended up watching both Raphael Nadal and Andy Murray could not believe it! The atmosphere was incredible, even so early in the tournament.
The next day involved lots of time on the subway and on foot, as I made my way into museums London. I went to the Science, Victoria & Albert, Natural History and British museums and much appreciated everyone, only the buildings been impressive. I especially liked all Egyptian and Greek artifacts such as vases, statues and the Rosetta Stone. It is a shame I had little time because there were so many interesting things to see.
For dinner, we went to the ivy, restaurant chic 'that my sister had booked well in advance. The food was good and nice atmosphere, if not a little pretentious. After some drinks in a local pub we meandered back to Clapham Common and the apartment of my sister. It was a great day of sightseeing and certainly that I would not forget anytime soon. Luckily I bought enough memory on my digital camera to last a lifetime, because I took a lot photos.
London is full of amazing sights and do it justice you would have to spend weeks exploring its vast expanses. The only problem is that it may be time to go from A to B, so you must be prepared for some frustrating that any delays on the subway lines or huge in the famous attractions. Fortunately, you'll never find yourself disappointed with what you find in London, it is a destination that should be on all passengers to do.
